In baptism, we believe that we enter the life of God and are given God’s life to empower and direct our lives. But how many of us live out this truth or are confident enough even to try? Jesus’ interaction with the Samaritan woman is a primer in living out the faith. Let’s take a close look to see what we can learn . . . and do!

  • Think of all the encounters you’ve had with God. It may have been a healing or a feeling of calm when you expected to panic. It might have taken shape as forgiveness given or received. What was it for you? How do you know it was from God? In what ways has your life been shaped by it afterwards?

  • How does the Samaritan woman’s behavior change after her encounter with Jesus? What does she do? Where does she go? What does she say? What about her reaction to Jesus can we learn from?

  • Read 1 Corinthians 2:1-5. How does Paul’s method of sharing the faith sound to you? In what ways does it make the task of faith-sharing seem plausible for you?

Next Step: People aren’t convinced of the reality of God by knowing about him, but by knowing him. Your greatest asset is a first-person account of how God has made a difference in your life. Think of what that is for you. Think about how you might share that story so you can be prepared when opportunity knocks!
