The miracle we’re looking at today is one of Jesus’ biggest—the only one that appears in all four gospels! In addition to the flashy stuff, this miracle story is interesting in what it doesn’t tell us. Let’s have a look at both parts today!

  • Have your circumstances ever left you feeling alone or isolated? This could be a time of illness or grief. It could be a time of decision-making. Whatever it was, what do you remember most about it? What did you learn most from moving through this time?

  • An interesting aspect of this story is why Jesus is where he is in the first place. Reading back to the beginning of the chapter, what do you suppose Jesus is dealing with as he seeks some ‘alone time.’ In what ways does seeing Jesus experience a common human need encourage you when facing similar things?

  • In a time when most people rarely, if ever, experienced the sensation of being full after eating, how do you think they reacted to the sensation after the meal Jesus had provided? What message about Jesus might they have taken from it?

Next Step: In what ways has Jesus ‘filled’ you? In what ways might you share this ‘fullness’ with your neighbors?
